Lifting appliances
Offshore and subsea cranes, A-frames, davits and handling tools, designed and verified for dynamic sea-state loading.
Mechanical engineering consultancy
We design mechanical equipment for places where loads are high, access is hard and failure is costly. Our roots are offshore and subsea: lifting appliances, pipelay and cable lay systems, ROVs, trenchers and their launch and recovery systems.
Sectors served
What we design
Most of our work is offshore and subsea equipment for the contractors who operate it. The same discipline carries into nuclear and the wider energy sector, wherever equipment has to be right first time.
Offshore and subsea cranes, A-frames, davits and handling tools, designed and verified for dynamic sea-state loading.
Reel lay systems and the tensioners, aligners, straighteners and handling equipment around them.
Carousels, tensioners, chutes, overboarding and cable handling systems for power and umbilical installation.
ROVs, tooling skids, and jetting and cutter trenchers for cable burial, from tracked chassis to the cutting and jetting assemblies.
LARS, docking heads, snubbers and umbilical management for safe deployment through the splash zone.
Remote handling, precision mechanisms and test rigs for nuclear and energy research facilities where access is restricted.
Beyond equipment
Not every job is a machine. We also take on the structures, analysis and technical leadership that sit around offshore and energy projects.
Seafastening, grillages, deck foundations, lift points and the structural assessment of existing assets.
Finite element and hand-calculation analysis, independent checking and calculation packages to support certification.
Technical authority and lead engineer roles on multidisciplinary projects, on your team or ours.
How we help
Bring us in at concept stage, for a single calculation package, or to take a design all the way through manufacture to commissioning and handover.
Options, layouts and early sizing to test an idea before money is committed.
3D models, assemblies and general arrangements through to manufacturing drawings.
Structural and mechanical analysis, checked and documented for certification.
Technical queries, concessions and design changes through fabrication and build.
Factory acceptance, testing, commissioning and support into operation.
A second pair of eyes on an existing design, or a rescue for one that has stalled.
| Analysis | Finite element and hand calculation |
|---|---|
| Design | 3D CAD, general arrangement and manufacturing drawings |
| Data | Within your PLM and drawing standards, or self-contained |
| Standards | To the codes and class rules your project requires |
We can work inside your PLM and drawing standards, or deliver a self-contained package.
How we work
Equipment offshore lives or dies on its interfaces: the vessel, the product, the sea state and the crew. We start there.
Understand the operation, vessel interfaces, loads and constraints.
Develop and compare options; agree the arrangement with you.
Detailed design, FEA and calculations, checked as we go.
Drawings and calculation packs, then support through manufacture, test and commissioning.
Selected work
Project details are generalised to respect client confidentiality.
Our principal engineer, embedded as technical lead in the client's team, helped restart a stalled programme and take an integrated pipelay system through certification, commissioning and full-scale trials.
Mechanical technical leadership on a subsea jetting vehicle, from an established concept through detailed design, structural verification and jetting integration to factory acceptance.
Who you work with
AuraTech Innovation was founded in Darlington in 2012 to provide specialist mechanical and structural engineering consultancy to the energy, offshore and marine industries.
Led by a principal engineer with over 25 years of industry experience, AuraTech brings the technical capability and leadership experience of major engineering organisations, without the layers of management.
Our experience spans complex multidisciplinary engineering projects, including technical leadership of a €130 million offshore pipelay system, delivery of DNV-certified equipment, advanced subsea vehicles, heavy lifting systems, marine renewable technologies and fusion energy research.
From early concept development and advanced engineering analysis through to detailed design, manufacture, commissioning and operational delivery, we provide practical engineering solutions backed by real project experience.
No account managers. No unnecessary hand-offs. You work directly with the engineer responsible for delivering the work.
We are growing. If you're a mechanical, structural or design engineer with relevant industry experience and share our approach to engineering, we'd be interested in hearing from you.

The group
AuraTech Innovation is the parent company. We engineer physical equipment; Moduli, our software business, builds the engineering tools and services behind it.
Mechanical and structural engineering of offshore, marine, subsea and energy equipment for contractors and equipment owners.
Engineering software built from the same practice: Calculi for engineering calculations, with Fluvi to follow.
From the archive
Before focusing on client work we developed our own robotic systems for subsea and aerial survey. They are part of our history, and what we learned building them feeds into the equipment we design today.

A complete survey system, from a drone-based LiDAR data acquisition vehicle to ATLAS, our own cloud platform, built to replace walking the line and judging clearance by eye.
